Planning for the PausesIs not impermanence the very fragrance of our days? ~ Rainer Maria Rilke At times it seems impossible, at other times unnecessary but, if we are going to bring formal practice into our lives, we must plan for it, or risk having each day swept away by the waves of impermanence. If we are going to take time to pause, we must plan for it. This is true for students as much as for teachers, for folks in whatever phase of work or leisure life, for folks in all parts of the world. And given the unknowns of the pandemic, we cannot always fulfill our plans, but that need not stop us from making new ones. This month we, at Dassanāya Buddhist Community, have been making new plans to support you to pause in 2022. Thanks to great generosity, here at the vihara we are now set up to receive folks for guest stays. Visiting the vihara for a guest stay means immersing yourself in monastic life, a way of living that is designed to help you clarify mind and body. We’ll also open for in person weekly meditation practice, starting on February 8th. And the upcoming retreat, on the teachings of the Middle Way, will be a first for the new space. We’re welcoming folks for in person participation for the full day, as well as practice online with our global, multi-fold sangha. So I hope that you will take time to consider what supports you in deep practice, and that you will move to obtain them. I hope that you will make plans to pause, together with our community.
