This Shore and The Other Shore

I have been accepted into a program in London to pursue a one year Master's degree in Buddhist art history and conservation. It's at The Courtauld Institute of Art which is associated with The Courtauld museum and the University of London. I’m very enthusiastic about it because it brings together all my great loves - Buddhism, art, study, and travel, and it will really bring forth another dimension of teaching for me. Here's a link to the description: The Courtauld.

I will still teach once a week virtually for DBC (see new weekly program schedule on the homepage) and keep in touch with students while I'm studying, and I hope to start a sitting group there at the museum too. And of course there are sanghas in London that I would like to connect with.

In the meantime, two of the teachers that are in training with me will carry on the current weekly programs. Rakhi Parekh will be leading Thursday morning meditations and offering an Introduction to Mindfulness course in early 2024. Stephen Steiner is going to reside at the vihara to keep the doors open and make sure there is a welcoming presence. He will lead the Tuesday Tune In program and the Wednesday morning meditations, as well as in person community gatherings.

I will be back during the holiday and spring breaks to make sure that I stay in touch with everyone.

So DBC is going to be on this shore and the other shore!

And when I return in December, I hope to offer a field trip to the Smithsonian Asian Museum and share some of what I have learned. Look for details on the calendar page.
