The topic of this day of retreat is “Going Fast While Going Slow: Four Practices for Freedom from Within”
The human experience is so poignant and rich, filled with joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures. Life can have such fullness. Events are rapidly unfolding, some events of our own making and others that we never imagined possible. Yet that same fullness of life can feel like a spinning wheel, staying busy all the time, but without the satisfaction of experiencing anything really new or meaningful.
However, the teachings of Buddhism tell us that there is plenty of new territory to discover, right here within our own hearts and minds. In fact, the promise of practice is that it can reveal aspects of the human experience that are profound, aspects that we might have heard about or wondered about, but never really seen.
During this day of practice together with Ayya Dhammadipa, we will explore four approaches to practice as described in some of the earliest Buddhist texts. These approaches can support us on the Path of meaningful discovery:
listening
dismantling
enduring
going fast
The day will include periods of meditation in stillness and in movement, as well as two Dharma talks on the Sutta of the Royal Bull Elephant.
We will alsoend the day chanting the Sutta on the Highest Blessings.
