The aim of this course is to explore
a Dhamma of awakening
as it is understood in early Buddhism -
how it relates to other practice goals,
and how it can be realized.

The course will include four weekly gatherings with the Maestra and includes the opportunity for a monthly gathering with a small group and the opportunity to have a monthly individual practice discussion.

The Four Factors.

This week we will explore the first of the four factors, associating with good people. We will also begin the meditative approach by practicing the meditation on the six sense fields.

One Who Knows & Sees.

This month will be spent exploring wise attention, and its role in both abandoning and cultivating mind states that lead to nibbāna. We will contrast the sutta descriptions of nibbāna with the understanding of the Abhidhamma. We will study examples of the Buddha teaching by encouraging others to teach. We will also explore the meditative approach of ānāpānassati.

As It Really Is.

This month will be spent exploring the 5 khandhas, contact, and the subjective-objective interplay in order to better understand the arising of obstacles to nibbāna. We will also have a deeper look at the āsavas and how their abandonment leads to nibbāna. We will study examples of the Buddha teaching by using categories. This month the meditative approach will be directed primarily at experiencing feeling tones.

We will also have a look at the role of effort in the approach to nibbāna. We will study examples of the Buddha teaching by using milestones. Still and Aware.

This month will be spent exploring the view of self, and how it can be relinquished as a step in the approach to nibbāna. We will investigate samādhi as a vehicle for both clarifying the mind and observing the absence of self. We will study examples of the Buddha teaching by repetition. We will also explore the meditative approach to the jhanas.

This month will be spent exploring letting go as a condition for attaining nibbāna. We will also explore the perception of impermanence in the approach to nibbāna. We will study examples of the Buddha teaching by being a role model. This month the meditative approach will be directed primarily at experiencing impermanence.
