Summer Book Club: Living by Vow

Together with Dhammadipa, the participants in this virtual book club will explore the ways that each of us can discern our personal path of practice as seen through the lens of Zen Buddhism. We will read the text “Living by Vow” by Shohaku Okumura Roshi, with a focus on the meanings embedded in the texts used in Zen rituals. We will explore such questions as, “What does it mean to say that things are empty? Can legends and history support my spiritual development? How do Zen Buddhists meditate and why?”

The virtual book club will read one chapter each week, beginning with Chapter 1 “The Four Bodhisattva Vows.” Live online group discussions will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 pm Eastern US time, starting on August 6th and ending on Sept 24th. This is a drop in discussion that is offered by donation.
